On the Feininger trail
To Feiningers favourite motifs
The 30-kilometre long cycle tour is an ideal way to follow in the footsteps of the artist, Lyonel Feininger, who was one of the first teachers of the Bauhaus in Weimar. The tour takes in the glorious cluster of villages south of Weimar in the Middle Ilm Valley conservation area and also a great many of the painter's favourite motifs. There are large glass display panels at each stopping point along the well marked route, which for the most part show a Feininger painting of a particular church, with a grandstand view of the original.
Information
A flyer 'Feininger cycle route' and other churches in the Weimarer Land region, which the painter visited, is available at the Tourist Information Office Weimar.
