You can’t just live off dumplings and sausages alone – it’s also worth sampling other things “made in Weimar”. A selection is listed below, and highly recommended trying.
Wine from Weimar
Almost 50 hectares of vineyards are tended on the sunny slopes around the Poetenweg and in Schöndorf, north of Weimar.
Beer from Weimar
Weimar has 175 years of brewing history. Weimar’s beer is called Ehringsdorfer, named after an old quarter in the south of town.
It all began in a communal kitchen, but now Felix Bieber runs an ice-cream factory and travels around on his “ice-cream bike”, selling his products in both summer and winter.
Petra Hermann has drawn inspiration from the recipe books of the Goethe family and other Weimar personalities to collate her own menu.
